Island is the first country in the world to legislate that companies must pay men* and women* the same for the same work and publicly state this. The law is a measure to make unfair pay for women* and men* a thing of the past. This should happen by 2022, if the politicians have their way. "It's time to do something radical," said Minister for Equality and Social Affairs Þorsteinn Víglundsson about the planned measure to tackle the problem of the gender pay gap.

According to a study by THUMP, women* made up on average only 17% of headliners at popular music festivals around the world in 2016. Smirnoff's "Equalizing Music" initiative, in partnership with THUMP and Broadly-VICE, aims to bring together music fans and industry leaders* to double the number of female*-identified and non-binary producers* and DJs on festival lineups by 2020.
