FIFTITU% Ausstellung „Verborgene Frauen“ in Bozen/Italien

FIFTITU% Ausstellung „Verborgene Frauen“ in Bozen/Italien

March 8 to 28, 2014 at the library of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

With this exhibition project, FIFTITU% presents female artists from the fields of literature, music, visual arts and science who have deliberately worked under a pseudonym, are still working or whose works have been appropriated by men. The exhibition includes 16 biographies of very different women who nevertheless have one thing in common: Their working in a patriarchal society. This society has established norms and value hierarchies that exclude women and their work or do not appreciate it to the same extent as that of men

The diverse mechanisms of our normative society resulted in the deliberate use of pseudonyms or made it possible for the works to be appropriated by men. 13 women presented in the exhibition used or use pseudonyms that are almost exclusively male. Only Bertha von Suttner chose a neutral one, "Someone". Women whose works were appropriated by men are numerous - but also more difficult to capture. Three examples of this can be found in this exhibition: Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Camille Claudel and Mileva Maric.
